Silicon Valley Urban Debate League
“Through the rigor and thrill of the academic sport of debate, the Silicon Valley Urban Debate League (SVUDL) helps youth from low-income backgrounds tap the power of their voices to compete, excel, and change the world. Debate teaches students to analyze complex issues, formulate evidence-based arguments, and communicate persuasively and respectfully. SVUDL empowers low-income students of color, many of whom will be first generation college students, to unlock the power of their voices to become advocates for themselves, their futures, and their communities.”
Bay Area Urban Debate League
“The Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL) works with Bay Area public school districts to make competitive policy debate available to every public high school student.
BAUDL believes that debate increases student academic performance, enriches and expands their college and career opportunities, and provides the intellectual and networking tools for youth to thrive as active, responsible leaders in their communities.”
Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League
“LAMDL partners with over 30 schools in Los Angeles to grow debate, adding more every year.
Students in urban public schools have little more than a fifty percent chance of graduating from high school. Urban debate keeps these students in school. It teaches them that, with effort, they can succeed, and it ignites their passion for learning. The results are dramatic. Urban debaters are 3.1 times more likely to graduate than non-debaters. Ninety-percent of urban debaters graduate on time, compared to only seventy-five percent of similar students who do not debate. “
Minnesota Urban Debate League
The Minnesota Urban Debate League (MNUDL) is a program of Augsburg University which provides resources and programming to support competitive academic debate in Twin Cities high schools and middle schools.
The mission of MNUDL is to empower students through competitive academic debate to become engaged learners, critical thinkers, and active global citizens who are effective advocates for themselves and their communities. Currently, MNUDL serves more than 1,000 students at 40 partner schools and has seen sustained growth in student participation since its inception in 2004.
